A Level celebrations at Ormiston Park Academy

Students and staff at Ormiston Park Academy in Aveley are celebrating today after receiving excellent A-level results, marking yet another year of academic progress and personal achievements.

A fifth of all grades achieved by A-level students at the Academy are a top grade (A* or A), with that figure jumping to 44% for all academic qualifications, including A levels. There was a 100% pass rate across A levels.

This is an excellent set of results for the academy, with A-levels on average up by over one grade, and academic qualifications up by two grades. The A-level average point score (APS) was up by 12 percentage points, whilst the academic qualifications APS was up 18 percentage points.

The excellent work of the teaching team was complemented by initiatives offered by OAT, who appointed an ‘Access Champion’, Simon Pedley to help students navigate the university application process and raise their aspirations.

There were also some outstanding individual success stories:

  • Yasemin Acikel received three A grades and has been accepted into the University of Westminster to study psychology
  • Emmanuella Williams, a student who relocated from Italy to study A-levels in psychology, health and social care, and sociology, has been accepted to study psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University

These results follow the hugely positive Ofsted inspection undertaken earlier this year, where the academy achieved a 'Good' rating. Inspectors said leaders, including governors and the Trust, have created a culture of high expectations and are driving rapid, sustainable improvement.

Huw Derrick, Principal of Ormiston Park Academy, said:

"We are absolutely delighted with the outstanding results achieved by our Year 13 students today. “All of our students have worked incredibly hard for their results and should be really proud. I would also like to thank our brilliant teachers and supportive parents for their contribution to today’s success. We wish all our Year 13 leavers the very best for the future."
