GCSE celebrations at Ormiston Maritime Academy

Students at Ormiston Maritime Academy in Grimsby are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results – with improvements in key subjects achieved.

The percentage of students who gained a Grade 4 or above in English and maths has increased to 42%, up 11 percentage points on last year’s results. Improvements were particularly strong in English, where the number of students achieving a Grade 4 or higher rose to 53%, up 16 percentage points on 2017.

This was also the case with the higher Grade 5 or above, where there was a 16-percentage point increase on the 2017 figure (37%).

Amongst the many students celebrating their results were:

  • Elle Sharp was the highest performer at the academy, achieving two Grade 9s in English Literature and English Language, with Zuzanna Losek following.
  • Charlotte Freeman secured the most progress, achieving on average two and a half grades above her target.
  • Another student achieved three Grade 9s in the separate Sciences.
