New Primary Academy joins the OAT family
Posted: 8 Sep 2016
Ormiston Academies Trust is delighted to announce it has welcomed Packmoor Primary School into the Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) family.
The school, based in Stoke-on-Trent will henceforth be known as Packmoor Ormiston Academy.
We are thrilled to be expanding our primary network further, after the conversion received widespread support from parents, staff and the local community.
OAT’s primary academies have been recognised for the excellent education they provide. Just this year, Ormiston Herman Academy, was nominated for a prestigious Times Educational Supplement Award for the excellent education its Early Years setting provides. Furthermore, Ormiston South Parade Academy, which joined OAT in 2012, continues to make fantastic progress with 77% of pupils achieving level 4 or above in reading, writing and maths at the end of KS2, compared to 62% in 2013.
The school will receive full support from OAT and access to its significant body of expertise. OAT has many years’ experience of successfully working in partnership with schools across the country.
Retaining its own unique identity, the school will continue to build positive community links as well as work in collaboration with the wider OAT network. Packmoor Ormiston Academy will retain its funding from the government but benefit from greater autonomy to procure services and bid for capital funding for future projects.
Sharon May, Principal at Packmoor Ormiston Academy, said:
“Converting to an academy and becoming part of OAT is in the best interests of our school, pupils and community. It gives us the opportunity to choose the most appropriate curriculum for our pupils and to maximise their enjoyment, success and future prospects. This is a voluntary decision by the school, its staff and governors who feel it is the right choice for our school."
“Our ethos is to be a successful, caring school with a strong commitment to excellence and opportunities for our pupils, staff and community, and this fits in perfectly with OAT.”
Professor Toby Salt, chief executive officer of Ormiston Academies Trust said:
“We are thrilled to be welcoming another primary academy into the OAT family. Packmoor is a well-respected school and great addition to the OAT community in Stoke where it is joining Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy and Ormiston Horizon Academy who have become shining examples within the local community."
“We are delighted that the move has received such great support from parents, staff, pupils and the local community. At OAT, we are committed to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential by raising aspirations and broadening horizons. We will provide Packmoor with full support to continue to achieve this, and are looking forward to working with the staff and pupils.”
