Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) has appointed a new Principal, Emlyn Wright, who takes over from retiring Executive Principal, John Rigby.

Emlyn will continue to provide strong leadership for the academy, which is graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted, ensuring that it continues to meet high standards and goes from strength to strength.

Emlyn Wright brings a wealth of experience to the role, joining OBA from Belfast Model School for Girls, where he served as Principal. Prior to that, he was Deputy Head at Weatherhead High School in the Wirral, a National Teaching School, where he worked for eight years leading on teaching and learning, professional development, and the implementation of the teaching school.

Emlyn is from Liverpool, but spent time during his childhood in Runcorn close to Ormiston Bolingbroke, and knows the local area well. His decision to take on this role was made partly because of his strong family ties to the area, as well as the excellent reputation of the academy.

This appointment follows another successful year for the academy, which saw it once again celebrating strong GCSE results, with many individual success stories. At A-level, 80% of students achieved an A*/A, or Distinction*/Distinction for Applied Learning subjects, and the academy achieved an impressive 100% pass rate for its whole Key Stage 5 cohort.

Emlyn is passionate about teaching, learning, and professional and leadership development. His priorities will be maintaining the positive trajectory of the academy and continuing to ensure that students not only achieve well academically, but are equipped with the skills and personal qualities they need to take their next steps as successful citizens.

Emlyn Wright, principal at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy, said:

"I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy and look forward to working with the fantastic and extremely dedicated staff and students, whose hard work has seen the Academy achieving some excellent results. My predecessor, John Rigby, has done a wonderful job in ensuring that OBA has very high expectations and aspirations for all its students. This is an ethos that I intend to continue.

"I have been watching OAT grow over several years and I’m excited to be working with such a dynamic trust with a proven track record of driving school improvement."

Nick Hudson, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Ormiston Academies Trust, said:

"Emlyn is a fantastic addition to the team at Ormiston Bolingbroke, bringing with him a wealth of experience, great drive and enthusiasm. We are very excited to have him on board.

"OAT will be working closely with Emlyn and his team to ensure Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy continues to deliver excellent educational outcomes for its students and goes from strength to strength."

Mike Cunliffe, Chair of Governors at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy, said:
