Ofsted commends Ormiston South Parade Academy as ‘Good’ in glowing inspection report

A Grimsby primary school has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for its strong and effective leadership, good teaching and culture of high expectations.

Ormiston South Parade Academy was rated 'Good' overall by Ofsted in its first inspection since it joined Ormiston Academies Trust. OAT was also singled out for praise in the inspection report, for providing 'effective challenge and support to the academy and its governing body.' Ofsted said that pupils make 'strong and sustained progress' and there have been 'significant improvements' in achievement thanks to good teaching by skilful, committed and knowledgeable staff.

The academy's senior leaders had ensured high-quality teaching 'with clarity of purpose,' while instilling a culture of high expectations among staff and pupils, the report said. It added that the Principal, Jane Nolan, was supported by parents, who told inspectors that their children 'are happy and safe at the academy and that they are well behaved and make good progress.'

In another key finding, Ofsted highlighted that 'the way that the academy promotes pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding,' with the report adding: "Pupils are enthusiastic about their learning and their school. They work hard and wear their uniforms with pride. They show by their attitudes, engagement and care for each other that they live out the academy’s ‘5 Rs for learning and life’. They are respectful, responsible, resilient, reflective and resourceful."

Principal Jane Nolan said:

“We have talented teachers, strong governors, very supportive parents, and wonderful pupils. All have bought into the culture of high expectations that we have established here, and it is this commitment that has led to such a positive Ofsted inspection report. I would also like to pay tribute to Ormiston Academies Trust, our sponsor, for the support they provide. It really has been a great team effort and we are all delighted with the comments made. “The next step is to go one better – we are on a journey to Outstanding and everyone here is committed to achieving that.”

Dr Jason Howard, Ormiston Academies Trust’s Director of Primary and Progress, said:

“Ormiston Academies Trust is committed to ensuring that all our children and young people receive the very best education, and are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential. Today’s excellent Ofsted report demonstrates that those principles are being admirably reflected at Ormiston South Parade Academy. I would like to congratulate Jane, her team and the wider school community on their achievement.”
