Ormiston Bolingbroke students do an excellent job in the community

Four Year 10 students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy were given an opportunity to gain some valuable work experience when they participated as stewards at the Phoenix Park Experience (PPX), in collaboration with Cheshire Police Force, during the summer holidays.

The fun event, was held in August which was a great hit with local young people and their families. There was a huge range of events taking place, including American football, boxing, cheerleading, target sports, various demonstrations as well as stalls, attractions and funfair-style games to suit all tastes.

Unfortunately, in Runcorn, just like in many towns, anti-social behaviour can be a problem, so events like this help to break down barriers between the Police and the young people who might engage in anti-social behavior; they encourage members of the local community to all work together in keeping the area in which they live safe as possible. The aim of the event is to provide families and young people in Runcorn with something fun to do over the long summer school holidays and it highlights and promotes local support groups and any facilities available to them. The local council, bus companies, businesses, housing providers, as well as the local residents, all worked together on this very worthwhile project.

The day was a huge success and it is estimated that between several thousand were in attendance on the day. There were representatives from Widnes Vikings, Spartans American Football, Liverpool Housing Trust, Cheshire Search and Rescue, Rampworx, The Army, ABC Boxing Club, Arriva Buses and many more local clubs and activities.

PC Suzi Williams (Youth Engagement Officer, Cheshire Constabulary) said:

"The PPX event is a great way of bringing members of the local community together and is really enjoyable.  I would like to offer my personal thanks to the four OBA students who got involved for their valued support – they worked really hard!"

Miss Jarvis who co-ordinated the event with the OBA students said:

"The four OBA students will be awarded with an AQA accreditation in Event Volunteering and will receive their certificates later this month!  They truly deserve them and should be very proud of their achievements. Thank you once again to those who took part and for representing OBA’s commitment to supporting our local community."
