Ormiston NEW Academy announces new principal

Mr Cooling will take up his post in September

Ormiston NEW Academy in Wolverhampton has announced that Craig Cooling is to become its new Principal.

Mr Cooling, who will take up his post in September and joins the school from Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath, where he most recently served as Senior Vice Principal.

He will bring a wealth of experience to his new role, having taught at Forge for 17 years. For the past seven years, Mr Cooling has been involved in the leadership of the school, influencing teaching and learning, Key Stage 5 and leadership across the staffing body.

As a classics teacher, he has also taught a number of subjects, including religious studies and history. During his time at Ormiston Forge Academy, Mr Cooling has worked closely with young people to improve their life chances, including overseeing the significant increase in students from Forge going on to university since the school became an academy in 2012.

Mr Cooling will replace current Principal Julia Flavin, who has helped to drive the school’s ongoing success since starting her post in September 2018.

The school has been on a sustained journey of improvement since it joined the Trust in September 2017. Mrs Flavin, the school leadership team, the Board of Governors and OAT, will all now be working closely with Mr Cooling to support the transition into his new role, as they work together to maintain high standards and expectations.
