Ormiston Rivers Academy celebrates A Level results and university places
Posted: 18 Aug 2016
Students and staff at Ormiston Rivers Academy in Burnham are celebrating their exam results today after winning university places in another year of academic achievement.
There was a strong pass rate in A Levels, including a 100% pass rate in several subjects including English, Maths, Biology and History. The Academy also saw an increase in the number of students achieving A* and A grades. The results are yet more evidence that the sixth form, oversubscribed for the next academic year, is going from strength to strength.
The excellent work of the teaching team was complemented by initiatives offered by its sponsor, Ormiston Academies Trust, which appointed an ‘Access Champion’, Simon Pedley, to help students navigate the university application process and raise their aspirations.
As part of his work, Simon delivers lectures and workshops on Oxbridge and Russell Group applications and encourages students to develop skills and experiences to help them stand out and access top universities.
This is an excellent set of A Level results for the academy, which is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and there were some exceptional individual success stories:
- Josh Collier the Head Boy achieved 3 A Levels at top grades (A*, A, A) in Geography, History & Philosophy & Ethics, and A* in his Extended Project. He will be going on to study History at his first choice university, York.
- Kathryn Ponder, the Head Girl, also achieved 3 fantastic A Levels results (A,A,A) in History, Performing Arts and Philosophy & Ethics, and A* in her Extended Project. Kathryn will also be going on to study History at her first choice university, Royal Holloway.
- Mason Holmes achieved 3 A Levels (A*,B,B) in Mathematics, Economics and Physics, and C in his Extended Project.
- Bridget Bellamy achieved 3 A Levels (A,B,B) in English Literature, History and Philosophy & Ethics.
Joan Costello, Principal at Ormiston Rivers, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the continued progress and achievement of our sixth form, and would like to congratulate all of our students on their well-deserved examination results. We wish them every success and happiness in their next endeavours”.
Chief Executive of Ormiston Academies Trust, Toby Salt, said: “It is our absolute priority as a Trust to ensure that every student fulfils their potential, no matter what their background, and key to this is raising students' aspirations.
“We are thrilled that Ormiston Rivers Academy is continuing to make progress with some fantastic student achievements this year.”
