Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy celebrates outstanding A Level results
Posted: 18 Aug 2016
Students at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy are celebrating today after achieving outstanding A Level results, including a 100% pass rate in all A Level entries.
Across the vocational and A Level subjects there were significant improvements across the board. The excellent work of the teaching team was complemented by initiatives offered by its sponsor, Ormiston Academies Trust, who appointed an ‘Access Champion’, Simon Pedley to help students navigate the university application process and raise their aspirations.
As part of his work, Simon delivers lectures and workshops on Oxbridge and Russell Group applications and encourages students to develop skills and experiences to help them stand out and access top universities.
This is an excellent set of A Level results for the academy. Over the last three years the academy’ sixth form, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, has seen continuing improvement, and both A Level and Vocational results have improved by an average of one and a half grades.
Boys’ achievement is particularly strong this year, with some inspiring individual stories, for example:
- Ethan Westwood will be the academy’s first student to go on to study Medicine at university, after achieving exceptional A Level results including an A in Biology, an A in Mathematics, an A in Chemistry as well as a C in Physics. Ethan will be studying medicine at the Russell Group University, the University of Birmingham.
- Nick Stevens achieved an impressive A* in Business, an A in Mathematics, a B in Economics and a B in Information Technology and will be going on to a degree level Accountancy apprenticeship with Rolls Royce.
- Also, doing an accountancy apprenticeship, but with Crowe Clark Whitehall, is Billy McLoughlin, who made fantastic progress, achieving an A in Mathematics, and B grades in Information Technology, English and Business.
Principal Paula Arrowsmith said: “Our students and staff are dedicated and committed to excellence and it is fantastic to see their efforts being rewarded with such amazing achievements. I am really proud to have seen such significant improvements to our sixth form over the last three years and wish our students every success in the future.”
Chief Executive of Ormiston Academies Trust, Toby Salt, added: “It is our absolute priority at OAT to ensure that every student fulfils their potential, no matter what their background, and we are thrilled to see these results today. Students, parents and staff at Ormiston Shelfield Academy should be very proud of their achievements and we wish everyone the best of luck with the next phase of their education or vocational path.”
