Ormiston South Parade Academy celebrates outstanding SATs results

Pupils and staff at Ormiston South Parade Academy (OSPA) are celebrating after achieving fantastic provisional results in national reading, writing and maths tests for 11-year olds.

Overall 84% of pupils at the high-performing academy achieved at least the expected standard in all three subjects. That result is 20 percentage points higher than this year’s interim national average, and five percentage points up on what OSPA achieved last year.

In writing, 88% of pupils achieved at least the expected standard, 84% did so in reading and 86% in maths. Those results are 10, nine and 10 percentage points respectively higher than the interim national average for the individual subjects.

Disadvantaged students at the academy performed particularly well, with 88% achieving at least the expected standard in reading, writing and maths – an impressive 24% above the national average.

The percentage of pupils attaining the standard of ‘greater depth’ was also strong, with 37% achieving the higher level in reading, 29% in maths and 43% in writing. Sixteen per cent of pupils achieved a greater depth in all three subjects.

The results follow another hugely successful year for the academy, with continued improvement being driven by the academy’s strong leadership team, including Executive Principal Jane Nolan.

Last month, Jane was announced as the winner of the prestigious ‘Headteacher of the Year’ award at the TES awards. Jane also won a Silver Pearson Teaching Award for Headteacher of the Year (primary school), whilst OSPA won School of the Year for ‘Making a Difference’.

The academy has developed an exciting and inspiring curriculum, designed to equip children with high-level skills in reading, writing and mathematics and to support and develop every child so that they make the best possible progress, regardless of their starting points.

OSPA opened in October 2012 as OAT’s first sponsored primary academy, and has continued to go from strength to strength.

Jane Nolan, Executive Principal of Ormiston South Parade Academy and Primaries Development Coordinator for Ormiston Academies Trust, said:

"We are absolutely delighted with this outstanding set of results. They are a testament to the hard work of our pupils, the supportive families, and our dedicated staff.

"At OSPA, our motto is ‘Believe In Yourself’ and we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are given the opportunities and support needed to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Today’s results are a clear reflection of this, and I’d like to congratulate all our pupils on their achievements and we wish them the very best as they move on to the next stage of their education."

Nick Hudson, Chief Executive Officer of Ormiston Academies Trust, said:

"Congratulations to all the pupils and staff at Ormiston South Parade Academy on this excellent set of results, which recognise the academy’s ongoing success and reputation as a provider of high-quality education.

"On behalf of OAT, I would like to pay tribute to OSPA's strong leaders, dedicated teachers, and of course the parents for all of their efforts and support."
