Despite this being the first year of tougher exams and the 1-9 grading system across all subjects, the academy achieved significant improvement in all key subjects. Overall, 63% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English and maths – a 16 percentage point increase on last year’s figure.

There was also a strong improvement in the proportion of students achieving Grade 5 or better in both the subjects, 36% this year compared to 27% last year. In English, almost three-quarters of students (74%) achieved a Grade 4 or higher (a 17 percentage point increase on last year) and 50% secured a Grade 5 or better (up 10 percentage points last year). In Maths, 70% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher (up 13 percentage points on 2017), and 48% gained a Grade 5 or above (up 10 percentage points on last year).

Students achieved highly across all subject areas, with students truly embracing their learning across the curriculum. A number of students at the academy, secured the top Grade 9, including in maths, history, geography, science, art and Spanish. Amongst the individual successes include:

  • Tyler Munro – Head Girl at Venture and successful Greshams scholar, has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to her studies proven in her placing as a top performer with two Grade 9's and six Grades at 7 or above. She inspired so many in her year with her determination to succeed both in the classroom and in the way she has shaped the academy.
  • Jessica Smith - Many students face adversity while their determination to succeed shines through and Jessica has certainly shone. Jessica is an inspiration achieving an amazing five Grade 9's and placing her as one of the top students in the country. We are not only proud of her outstanding achievements but will always see her as a part of our Venture family.
  • Cameron Hodds - Representing the youth of the area as the Youth Parliament member Cameron is a true role model. As head boy and successful St Felix scholar he has ensured his high aspirations are rewarded in the five Grade 7's and above he has achieved. He has overcome his learning barriers, excelling in every way.
