The group is made up of leading headteachers from schools across England and advises the Government on education policies which may impact primary and secondary schools.

The opportunity will allow Jane to showcase her expertise in education, and further confirms her success as Principal at OSPA.

In the first Ofsted rating since it became an academy under OAT, OSPA achieved a ‘Good’ rating in July 2016. The inspectors praised Jane for her very strong and effective leadership and for establishing a culture of high expectations at the academy.

Bringing together a wide range of expertise, the group acts as a channel of communication between schools, the DfE and other agencies; provides advice on policy development; works to account for the views of business and industry partners; and acts as a confidential sounding board for the Government to test their policies. As Jane continues to strive for high standards at OSPA, her wealth of experience, knowledge and contributions will help to drive improvements at the heart of national education policy making.

Jane Nolan, Principal of Ormiston South Parade Academy, said:

"It’s a real honour to be appointed to the Headteacher Reference Group by the DfE. I have always had a strong interest in education policy making and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to utilise my experiences to improve educational standards across the country.

"I will continue to work hard to improve standards at Ormiston South Parade Academy, and I hope to share my experiences in doing so with headteachers and policy makers as part of the group."

Nick Hudson, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Ormiston Academies Trust, said:

"We are delighted for Jane that she has been appointed to the DfE’s Headteacher Reference Group, which will no doubt benefit immensely from her input. Jane has been pivotal in Ormiston South Parade Academy’s success over the last few years, and we are very proud that she will be representing Ormiston Academies Trust on the national stage."

National Schools Commissioner Sir David Carter said:

"The Headteacher Reference Group is vital for ensuring that headteachers across the country are able to contribute, test and advise on the development of education policies which may come in to practice. It is fantastic to have a representative on the group from Ormiston Academies Trust. Bringing her knowledge and experience of leading the successful Ormiston South Parade Academy, Jane Nolan will be brilliant addition to the group."
