Record number of OAT A Level students win places at top universities
Posted: 18 Aug 2016
Congratulations to students across the country at Ormiston Academies Trust schools for your results today.
Across the board, results increased from last year – this is thanks to your hard work and talent, backed up by fantastic support from families and staff. We are immensely proud of what you have achieved.
Many of our academies are in more disadvantaged parts of the country, but we are committed to ensuring that our students are provided with the same opportunities as their better-off peers to fulfil their potential. Our focus on this – including the work of our ‘Access Champion’ to help students secure top university places and to providing a wide range of enrichment activities to broaden horizons – is having a positive impact.
The results demonstrate the ever-increasing aspirations of our students and are shown in the number of students heading to university, including Russell Group universities and indeed Oxbridge.
More of our students than ever before have secured a place at a Russell Group university, including 29% of students at City of Norwich School, for instance – well above the national average. Three students at City of Norwich School have been accepted by Oxbridge. We also have students accepted for some of the most sought-after Apprenticeships, such as with Rolls Royce.
Good news stories abound. As well as the strong universities numbers, such as at City of Norwich School, the proportion of A* and AS grades more than doubled at a number of academies including Ormiston Bolingbroke, Ormiston Bushfield, Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise, Ormiston Rivers and Ormiston Victory. And at Ormiston Shelfield, boys’ results have shot up.
This is just a snapshot of the successes – and there are numerous individual noteworthy stories at every academy.
These results are not by chance – they are the product of many weeks, months and years of hard work, by students, families and staff. We would like to thank them all, and wish them every success for the future, whether they are going on to the next phase of their education, or have chosen to go into employment.
Professor Toby Salt, Chief Executive of Ormiston Academies Trust, said: “We are determined that all our students get the very best opportunities to progress and fulfil their potential and I am incredibly proud of all those students who are not only the first in their families to go to university but the ever increasing number going to higher tariff universities. This is a fantastic set of results – and nothing less than our students deserve for all their hard work.”
