Sandon Meridian Academy joins Ormiston Academies Trust

Sandon Meridian Academy in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, has today (1 September) joined leading multi-academy trust, Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), becoming Ormiston Meridian Academy.

The conversion has received widespread support from parents, staff and the local community in Meir. As part of its new chapter with OAT, the academy also welcomes a new name - Ormiston Meridian Academy.

For many years, OAT has successfully raised academic standards amongst its now 34 academies, and last year achieved record exam results in both GCSEs and A Levels across the network. Ormiston Meridian Academy will benefit from the full support of the Trust, including having access to its wide range of resources, services and expertise. Teachers and leaders at Ormiston Meridian Academy will also have the unique opportunity to share and exchange best practice with the other academies across the tight-knit network.

Retaining its own unique identity, the Academy will continue to build on its positive community links, as well as work in collaboration with the Trust. Ormiston Meridian Academy will maintain its funding from the government, but benefit from greater autonomy and Trust-wide collaboration to procure services and bid for capital funding for future projects.

OAT’s academies are clustered into East, West, South and North regions (from September 2017). The OAT academies already established in Stoke-on-Trent include Ormiston Horizon Academy and Ormiston Sir Stanley Mathews Academy, which are both recognised for their excellent education provision and have celebrated ‘Good’ Ofsted ratings. All three academies have considerable strengths and will collaborate further collaboration will accelerate the transformational improvements already evident.

OAT champions the academic achievement and all-round development of the 26,000+ young people it serves. It is determined to be the Trust that makes the biggest difference, both inside the classroom and beyond. The Trust’s vision is for the academy is for its students to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to fulfil their potential.
