Chief Academy Improvement Officer
Nick leads, manages and co-ordinates the work of the OAT school improvement team including regional directors, to ensure our network of academies secure the very best outcomes for their young people, and ensure challenging academy standards are not only met but surpassed.
Nick was formerly Ofsted Regional Director for the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region since January 2013 and for a period of time, whilst still an RD, assumed responsibility as Ofsted National Director for Early Education. In this role, Nick was responsible for leading all Ofsted inspection work across the region, which has the largest proportion of schools requiring work and the lowest number of schools rated as outstanding or good. He was also a member of the Ofsted Executive Board.
Having started his career as a secondary school teacher, Nick is an outstanding educational leader having built his career on working in senior roles within LEAs children, young people, families and adult services. He also spent two years working abroad in West Africa as an Education Management Consultant for the United Nations Association International Service.
