Wodensborough Ormiston Academy (WOA) in Wednesbury has been recognised by Ofsted for providing a calm, respectful and inclusive environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
The school is among the first to be inspected under Ofsted’s new national inspection framework, which no longer issues a single overall grade. Instead, schools receive a detailed report card with separate judgements across key areas of school life.
This latest report builds on the progress the academy has made in recent years. Having worked tirelessly to secure its first ever ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement in 2021, the school continues to move forward under the new framework, with inspectors recognising strong practice across many aspects of the school.

Following its full inspection in November 2025, Ofsted confirmed that Wodensborough Ormiston Academy is meeting the expected standard in attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and well-being, and post-16 provision.
The report describes the academy as a friendly, respectful community where pupils are valued, noting that pupils feel safe and speak positively about the support and care they receive from staff.
Other highlights from the report include:
- Pupils with special education needs and/or disabilities (SEND), those who are disadvantaged and those with no other vulnerabilities are generally supported well.
- Pupils are well prepared for life outside of school … [including] how to keep safe online.
- The school has carefully mapped out a series of core opportunities for pupils and there are a wide offer of opportunities to develop pupils’ talents and interests.
- Students enjoy representing their school by raising money for local charities and taking part in events such as sporting competitions and shows.
- The school’s careers education prepares pupils well for future education, employment or training.
- “The sixth form is a unique and personalised provision which supports students with high and complex levels of need.
- Pupils feel safe and well looked after. They say school is like a family.
- Staff are proud to work at the school and are committed to driving further improvements.
- Leaders are dedicated to serving their community well.
While the report highlights areas for further development, inspectors recognised that school leaders have clear and effective plans in place to continue improving teaching and learning for all pupils. Ofsted also noted that staff are very positive about their work, contributing to high staff retention, and that parents and carers are similarly positive about the school.
While the report highlights areas for further development, including academic attainment, inspectors recognised that the school’s work to strengthen outcomes is beginning to show positive impact, and leaders have a clear understanding of the further work needed to ensure even more pupils achieve as well as they should.
The report also recognises the school’s context and the importance of ensuring every pupil can thrive, particularly in a community where levels of disadvantage are significantly above average.
Leigh Moore, Principal at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, said: “We are pleased that Ofsted has recognised the calm and respectful culture we have built at WOA, and that pupils feel safe, supported and valued in our school community.
“This report reflects the dedication of our staff and the strength of our relationships with pupils and families, and the work we do to ensure pupils secure the skills, opportunities and outcomes they deserve. While we are encouraged to see that we are meeting the expected standard in so many areas, we are always ambitious for what more we can achieve for our pupils and our school, so we can build on this positive result”.
Paul Hyde, Education Director for the West Region at Ormiston Academies Trust, said: “Wodensborough Ormiston Academy is proud to serve its community, and this report recognises the inclusive and caring environment the school provides to help all pupils, including those who face barriers, to feel safe, supported and able to succeed.
“It is particularly positive to see Ofsted confirm expected standards across so many areas, including leadership, inclusion and personal development. The report is also clear about how the school can further achieve, and the Trust will continue to work closely with the academy to strengthen achievement and ensure every young person can fulfil their potential.”
