We are proud of what our academies have achieved since they joined the trust, and we are equally proud of how they continue to aspire to further improve. Our dedicated central team, combined with our excellent academy staff continue to develop an educational curriculum and wider personal development offer that meets the needs of each child or young person who attends an Ormiston academy.
The core value that ‘anyone’ can excel at an Ormiston academy is lived out through the experiences of pupils and staff in our vibrant and diverse academy communities across the country.
Many of our pupils face significant barriers and challenges and we are constantly striving to support our children and young people to be ambitious about what they can achieve and to ‘aim high’. Through our dedicated and hard working staff, we are helping to shape a society that gives everyone a fair chance.
Our strong moral purpose means that not only do we want each pupil to achieve the best outcomes, we also want to them grow and thrive as active members of their local community.
Of our 42 academies*, 29 (69%) joined the Trust through the academy sponsor route and many of these were facing significant challenge. This was reflected in the judgements made by Ofsted, with academies joining the Trust following an inadequate or requires improvement judgement.
We are therefore proud that at the end of 2023–24 academic year, when Ofsted announced that it would no longer be awarding an overall effectiveness grade, that:
- Of our 41 academies that have been inspected since joining the Trust, 35 were judged to be good or better.
- The proportion of academies judged to be good or better had risen from below 70% in September 2021 as we restarted following the pandemic, to 83%.
- In 2023–24, eight of our academies were inspected. Of these, seven were graded good or better for both personal development and behaviour and attitudes.
- None of our academies are graded as inadequate. All our academies that were judged to be inadequate when they joined OAT have improved.
The performance of multi-academy trusts (MATs) like OAT is published by the Department for Education (DfE) in national statistics and on the Compare school performance website.
