There is plenty to celebrate at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy as Year 11 students receive the best GCSE results in the school’s history and look ahead to the opportunities that await them.
The school is celebrating a record-breaking set of results following the hard work, resilience and ambition shown by students throughout their studies.
Significant improvements have been achieved by this year’s cohort, with students on average receiving an increase of around a third of a grade compared with last year and the highest ever achieved by the academy.
To achieve the best GCSE results in the school’s history is a fantastic milestone.
Simon Leach, Principal at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy
There was particularly strong success in the crucial English and mathematics measures – with 68% of students achieving a grade 4 or above in both English and maths – once again, celebrating the highest-ever figure and an increase of eight percentage points on last year. At the higher benchmark, 49% achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and maths, an increase of 11 percentage points and another school record.
Students also secured an impressive 18 grade 9s across their GCSE subjects. Grade 9 is the very highest GCSE grade and is designed to recognise exceptional performance amongst the highest-achieving students nationally.
While there are successes to celebrate across the entire year group, some exceptional individual performances include:
- Katy, who achieved an outstanding average grade of 8.4, including five grade 9s across triple science, mathematics and history.
- Owen, who secured three grade 9s, including in English language, English literature and art.
- Lucy, who also achieved three grade 9s in geography, mathematics and religious education.

Simon Leach, Principal at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy, said:
“This is an incredibly proud day for our entire school community. To achieve the best GCSE results in the school’s history is a fantastic milestone and reflects just how far the academy has come, but most importantly it is a testament to the hard work, determination and ambition of our students.
“Behind every result is a young person who has worked incredibly hard, supported by staff who have gone above and beyond and families who have encouraged them every step of the way. Seeing our students open their results today and knowing the opportunities these grades will unlock for them is what matters most.
“We are particularly proud to see record numbers of students achieving the key grade 4 and grade 5 benchmarks in English and mathematics, alongside some truly exceptional individual performances. Our congratulations go to every single member of the Class of 2026. They should be immensely proud of what they have achieved, and we cannot wait to see what they go on to accomplish next.”
