City of Norwich School (CNS) celebrated talented students at its annual Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) celebration evening.
The event brought together staff, students, and their families to recognise the achievements of over 90 students who have successfully completed their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards after much hard work and perseverance.
During the evening, the audience heard from guest speakers and alumni of the school, Kasia Dybis, Gordon Clarke and Tracie Nemeth who praised the students’ hard work and commitment. Students received their well-earned certificates and pin badges, celebrating alongside their peers. The event also highlighted the impressive 2000 hours of volunteering contributed to the local community.
Year 11 students Becca and Josh shared their personal experiences during the evening, reflecting on the journey and growth they have experienced throughout the DofE Award programme. They spoke about the valuable skills they have gained and the friendships they have formed as part of the unforgettable experience.
The keynote speaker, Tracie Nemeth who is a CNS alumna and currently works at Aviva, spoke of how the DofE can prepare students for adult life and the workplace, as well as create great memories.
Tracie, who graduated from CNS in 2001, emphasised how the DofE programme prepares students for adult life and the workforce, saying “You’ve all invested time and effort in starting to figure out who you are and what you are capable of. It might not feel like it now, but trust me, you’re almost certainly paving the way towards a future that you’ll be proud of.”

Jo Philpott, Headteacher said: “The CNS DofE Awards Celebration Evening not only recognises the hard work of the students but also inspires them to continue their journeys of personal growth and community service. We’re incredibly proud to offer the chance for all our students to take part in the DofE Award as one the highest performing school DofE centres in the county.
“It’s always amazing to see our young people take part in this experience and grow as young citizens. A huge congratulations to all the students for their remarkable achievements!”
