City of Norwich School (CNS) has been awarded the Equal Access School 2024 Award, recognising its work to achieve equal access to football in schools.
With just 44% of secondary schools currently providing equal access to football for girls in the curriculum, City of Norwich School (CNS) has bucked the national trend through their work to create opportunities for girls to get on the field.
The academy received the award as part of a partnership formed by the Football Association and Barclays, intended as a commitment to creating equal access and opportunities for girls to access the sport of football. This included the academy creating specific extra-curricular opportunities for girls to try the sport, learn the skills, and take part in challenging matches.
CNS is the only high school in the Norwich School Sport Partnership to have received the award, a testament to the PE department’s hard work and commitment to girls’ football.
As part of taking part in the programme, the academy has paved the way in creating an active and confident generation of inspired female footballers, coaches, officials and leaders.
Jo Philpott, Headteacher at City of Norwich School said, “We are so proud to have taken part in the Equal Access in School programme and to have been recognised for our commitment to inclusion and quality with this award. Ensuring that all our young people have equal access to opportunities and explore new passions is a core part of our commitment at CNS, and it has been excellent to see how much our young footballers have loved getting involved with the programme.”
