From archery to stage productions, Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy’s (OCPPA) exciting term for pupils
Pupils at Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy have been reflecting on the out-of-the-box lessons they have taken part in this term.
The academy has created opportunities for the young learners to get involved in everything from sporting competitions, to learning about community safety as part of its curriculum.
Budding actors and performers in Year 1 at the academy recently visited Norwich Playhouse to see an incredible production of The Gruffalo as part of their arts and drama curriculum, where some pupils were even invited to participate in the play! The pupils loved seeing one of their favourite stories come to life and were commended by teachers for their excellent behaviour and listening.
As they prepare for their next steps in education, Year 6 pupils got stuck into a more physical adventure as part of their residential trip at Norfolk Lakes in Lyng, spending time with friends and trying new exciting activities. Over the three days the children were asked to face many obstacles and fears and using their teamwork and communication skills, bravely tackled heights by climbing up the wall and tried their hand archery and rifle shooting to name a few.
Speaking on their trip, Year 6 pupil Leo Harrison said ‘All the activities were quite different, giving us lots to do’, and Ella Gall said ‘I really enjoyed tackling the climbing wall with my friends.’
The academy has also seen sporting stars shine this term, with children across Year 3 to Year 6 taking part in the East Norfolk Cross Country Championships held at Bure Park in a true demonstration of effort and determination from the young champions. Across the pupils, an incredibly 11 sportspeople secured a top 10 place meaning they will attend the County Finals later this year, with a few also being part of the reserve teams.
Pupils also had an exciting visit from the local community police officer, PC Carroll, who held an assembly which gave an important insight into the significance of community safety and how they can stay safe. The pupils heard first-hand about the importance of being aware of their safety near busy roads and how they can look after themselves.
Louise Watkins, Principal at Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy, said: “At Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy, we’re really proud of the exciting and varied learning opportunities that our pupils can take part in, which is such an important part of their growth and development. It has been so amazing to see our pupils get stuck into everything from climbing, to sports, to learning about their safety, with enthusiasm and passion. All of us are really excited to see what the next year brings as another exciting term begins!”
