Ormiston Chadwick Academy has been celebrating its students’ bright sporting futures with a series of scholarships and scouting. The academy has had a string of rugby successes with talented young sportspeople bringing home victory.
Year 9 students Josh, Liam, Bobby, Riley, Mason, Lewis, Alfie and Sullivan all became national champions, after The Westbank Bears U14s team took home first place in the BARLA National Cup at Featherstone with a resounding victory.
Following their standout success on the pitch, Reece, Bobby and Josh have all been scouted for rugby league scholarships with St Helens, whilst students Liam and Alfie have been awarded scholarships with Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards, respectively. The scholarships will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to pursue their sporting passions and potentially progress to a professional career, through unique access to leading training across technical, tactical, athletic, lifestyle and mental skills.
Additionally, year 11 student Sophia has just been selected for the England Rugby Pathway at St Helens RUFC, only weeks after completing her GCSEs. The young sport star will also take part in the North West Talent Hub, which will offer her the opportunity to further hone her skills through regional camps and intense training. Sofia currently plays for the Halton Farnworth Hornets, and could be in with a chance to take part in the England Diploma in Sporting Excellence through her time with the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) Girls Talent Hub.
The successes come in time for celebrations around the 30th anniversary of National Sports Week, which has encouraged young people to pick up sports and recognise the importance of being “Always Active” to support physical health and wellbeing. As part of the celebrations, the academy created a unique physical education curriculum with students taking part in exciting sports from kinball to Danish longball on the school’s state-of-the-art 3G pitch and multi-use games area.
Jennifer Lowry-Johnson, Principal, said: “At Chadwick, we’re committed to providing exciting opportunities for our students to try new sports and pursue their passions as part of a balanced lifestyle, which supports their health and wellbeing, alongside confidence, teamwork, and perseverance. Our whole school community could not be more proud of the resilience and dedication that our phenomenal sportspeople display and it is amazing to see their hard work and talent recognised on and off the pitch. We know we have some very bright stars at Chadwick!”
