Brownhills Ormiston Academy, welcomed local MP Wendy Morton to the school, where she met with pupils and staff as part of the school’s personal development and citizenship education programme.
During her visit, Mrs Morton spoke with pupils about democracy, politics and public service, helping bring to life key aspects of the PSHE and Citizenship curriculum. Pupils study topics including how Parliament works, the role of elected representatives, voting and elections, and the ways in which individuals can influence decision-making in their communities.
Hearing directly from their Member of Parliament provided Brownhills pupils with first-hand insight into these areas, giving them the opportunity to ask questions about political life, public service and the democratic process. The visit helped pupils make meaningful connections between what they learn in the classroom and how democratic institutions operate in practice.

As well as meeting pupils, Mrs Morton spent time with the academy’s PSHE and Personal Development leads to discuss the school’s wider work in preparing young people for life beyond the classroom. She also met with Headteacher Mr Doodson to hear about the school’s priorities and future plans.
Wendy Morton has been a strong supporter of Brownhills Ormiston Academy for a number of years, and the school values this important and positive relationship. Mrs Morton’s visit provided an opportunity to strengthen those links further while showcasing the academy’s commitment to developing informed, engaged and responsible citizens.
Mr R T Doodson, Headteacher at Brownhills Ormiston Academy, said:
“Citizenship is an important part of our curriculum because it helps pupils understand the society they live in and the role they can play within it. Having the opportunity to hear directly from their Member of Parliament made that learning more relevant and engaging. We are grateful to Wendy for her continued support of the academy and were delighted to welcome her to the school.”
