Students from Ormiston Chadwick Academy have taken part in tailored workshops from Mind of the Student, learning essential knowledge and practical strategies for managing their mental health.
Mind of the Student, a charity committed to empowering young people to speak about their mental health, delivered a series of workshops to students at Ormiston Chadwick Academy to mark Children’s Mental Health Week.
Over 900 students across five different year groups took part in workshops to discuss key topics such as depression, anxiety, social media pressures, exam stress, and confidentiality, and learning the skills and tools to navigate challenges and build resilience.
As part of this, the students got involved with different activities to understand how they can support their own mental health, such as how they can stop their ‘stress bucket’ overflowing or the role of ‘Fight, Freeze and Flight’ in managing stress.
The workshops form part of Ormiston Chadwick’s commitment to creating a learning environment where all pupils are best supported in their wellbeing, and equipped with the tools to succeed in all they do.
Jennifer Lowry-Johnson, Principal at Ormiston Chadwick Academy, said: “At Ormiston Chadwick, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing and mental health of all our students and providing them with the resources, skills, and tools that empower them to tackle challenges and lead happy and fulfilled lives. We were delighted to welcome Mind of the Student to our school to deliver these important workshops and we were really proud to see our students speak so confidently about such a sensitive topic.”
