Ormiston SWB Academy community raises over £21k for Race for Life

Ormiston SWB Academy has raised more than £21,000 for Cancer Research through its annual Race for Life event.

Now in its third year, the Race for Life has become a much-loved fixture in the academy calendar, uniting the school community behind a shared purpose while championing health, resilience and compassion.

This year’s event saw record participation, with pupils from neighbouring Loxdale Primary School joining the school in a powerful display of community spirit. Together, participants walked, jogged and ran in support of the cause.

The fundraiser has particular significance for the academy, being held in memory of former student Alexen. Fondly remembered by staff and students, Alexen’s legacy continues to inspire the community, with the event serving as a tribute that brings people together year after year.

Further strengthening the academy’s commitment, Principal Dan Mason also took on the 2026 London Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK, raising additional funds and awareness for the charity.

Together, the Race for Life and marathon efforts have raised £7,546, contributing to an overall total of more than £21,000 raised by the school community to date.

Dan Mason, Principal at Ormiston SWB Academy, said: “This event means a great deal to our whole community. It’s an opportunity for us to come together, remember those we’ve lost and support an incredibly important cause.

“We are so proud of everyone who has taken part or supported in any way. To have raised over £21,000 is a fantastic achievement, and a real testament to the strength and generosity of our community.”
