Sporting success celebrated at Ormiston Chadwick Academy

Ormiston Chadwick Academy is celebrating an exceptional period of sporting success, with students achieving high-level recognition in both rowing and table tennis at regional, borough and national level.

Students from the Academy’s rowing club recently impressed at the All Aboard Youth Rowing Competition, competing against schools from across Liverpool, Manchester, Wirral, Halton and Warrington. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams delivered outstanding performances, each securing silver medals in the Regional Open Relay events.

Jennifer Lowry-Johnson, Principal of Ormiston Chadwick Academy, said: “We are extremely proud of our students for these fantastic sporting achievements. Whether competing as part of a team or excelling individually, they have shown determination, resilience and ambition. These successes reflect the strong sporting culture we continue to build at Ormiston Chadwick Academy.”

The success continued in the individual races, with Alfie Weston securing gold after finishing first out of 160 competitors in the Year 8 Open event. Mya Krzyczkowska-Moss followed with an impressive silver medal, finishing 12th out of 154 competitors, while Frankie Rigby-Melia completed the podium with a bronze medal in the same category.

Following their outstanding performances, Alfred and Mya have now qualified to represent the Academy at the National Indoor Rowing Competition at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park later this term. Alongside this team success, the school is also celebrating individual sporting excellence after Year 8 student Chun Yat Cheung (Theo) was named winner of the Halton Sport Personality Award at Halton Borough Council’s Education Awards, Aiming High.

The award recognises young athletes who demonstrate exceptional talent, dedication and sportsmanship. Theo was praised for his commitment to table tennis, where he is currently ranked 21st in the UK for Under 13s and has been selected for the Table Tennis England North West Pathway Squad, as well as for the positive example he sets within the school community.

These achievements highlight the Academy’s commitment to encouraging participation in sport and supporting students to achieve excellence both in and beyond the classroom.
