Bruce has first class degrees: a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Alberta, an MBA (Finance and International Business) from the University of Chicago and an MSc in Behavioural and Economic Science (Psychology) from the University of Warwick. He earned his Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from St Mary’s University, Twickenham.
Bruce joined St Mary’s in 2019 as Director of the Institute for Business, Law and Society, and continues to teach at Warwick Business School and the Universities of Alberta and Calgary.
Bruce has over 25 years’ experience in senior leadership roles with Canadian Utilities Limited, Oliver Wyman & Co., S.G. Warburg, Syntek Capital and Deutsche Bank (DB). Bruce first joined DB in 1995, and from 2001 to 2010 he was Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Corporate Finance where he was part of the team that saw DB progress to a top 5 international position. From 2012 to 2014 Bruce was Global COO of DB’s Human Resources Division where he oversaw the transformation of systems for DB’s workforce of over 100,000
Bruce consults in the fields of performance management, motivation and compensation and has been Director of the Future of Financial Services Initiative at the University of Chicago. He is an advisor to BEAST Global, an Indian-based behavioural science consulting and educational company, and Facing History & Ourselves. He is Co-Chair of New North London, one of the UK’s largest synagogues. He has a particular interest in how new findings in the behavioural sciences can positively impact business performance.
