Students at Ormiston Sudbury Academy have marked a major milestone in the academy’s redevelopment, by taking part in a memorable steel signing event at the construction site of its new build.
The academy is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment, with the new sports centre emerging as the first visible phase of the development. With foundations complete and the steel framework now in place, construction partner Bowmer and Kirkland invited a group of students on site to take part in a symbolic moment before the next phase of work begins.
During the visit, students signed their names and wrote positive messages and reflections directly onto the steel beams, creating a lasting connection between the students of today and future generations who will thrive at the academy.
The event offered students a rare behind the scenes look at the scale and ambition of the project, bringing the redevelopment to life and transforming architectural plans into something tangible. As well as marking a key milestone in the build, the moment strengthened a sense of pride and shared ownership within the academy community.
The experience highlights the Trust’s commitment to placing students at the heart of its developments and creating inspiring learning environments that reflect the values and communities it serves.
The academy would like to thank Bowmer and Kirkland for involving students in such a meaningful and memorable way, helping to create a powerful and lasting link between the academy’s present and its future.
Sally Morris, Principal at Ormiston Sudbury Academy, said: “This development represents our ambition for the future of Ormiston Sudbury Academy. By involving students in this milestone, we are reminding them that their voices matter, both now and for generations to come. This was truly a special moment for our students and our whole school community.”
