Common SEN (mis)interventions – an evidence summary

We previously shared a discussion paper and video on inclusive teaching, which explores the systemic pressures shaping SEND provision in England – how the landscape developed, why it falls short for too many learners, and what a different approach might look like.

In their new discussion paper, Common SEN (Mis)Interventions, Dr Jen Barker, National Director of Learning at Ormiston, and Peps Mccrea, Director of Education at Steplab, take a deeper look at the evidence base underpinning pupil interventions. They explore why intervention is rarely straightforward and how many of the interventions we reach for help less than we think. They outline the research on ten commonly used SEN interventions in mainstream classrooms, raising the visibility of the best available evidence, along with high quality resources to use as a starting point.
