At Ormiston Academies Trust, we believe every child deserves an education that sees them fully – not despite their differences, but because of them. Our commitment to equity means more than equal access; it means actively removing the barriers that prevent children from being present, participating meaningfully, and achieving their potential. Inclusion, for us, is not a policy or a programme. It is a way of thinking about schools – one that places the conditions for learning at the centre, rather than asking individual children to fit a system that was not designed with them in mind.
To support the wider sector, we have developed a series of freely available resources for schools and trusts who want to build their knowledge and strengthen inclusive practice across their settings.
Our inclusive teaching paper takes an honest look at the systemic pressures shaping SEND provision in England – how the current landscape developed, why it continues to fall short for too many learners, and what a different approach might look like. Drawing on five guiding principles the paper invites educators to shift their focus from individualising need to designing genuinely inclusive schools and classrooms where all children can thrive. The inclusive teaching video below summarises the paper into a 17-minute discussion between Jen and Peps:
The inclusive teaching supporting resources features a series of discussions activities that schools or trusts can do to build knowledge and strengthen inclusive practice across their settings. You can download the supporting resources here.
