Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy used this year’s World Book Day to help local primary pupils build a love of reading with gifted books.
The school teamed up with Curiosity Bookshop in Runcorn and the Siobhan Dowd Trust to provide exciting book bundles to primary schools across Runcorn as part of their mission to encourage a passion for reading at all levels.
As part of the partnership, young readers at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy had the chance to browse the bookshop and pick out books for themselves and for the school’s library, helping to share more exciting stories with their fellow students.
Alongside this, the students also packaged up and delivered book bundles to local primary schools, passing on their love of literature to the next generation. The school invited pupils from Brookvale Primary School to visit the secondary school, spend time taking part in reading activities, and to choose their own book to take home.

It forms part of the school’s wider commitment to encouraging literacy and reading for students, which included celebrating this World Book Day with a creative door decorating and costume competition.
Michelle Rayner, Librarian said: “This has to be the highlight of my year – seeing the children so excited and enthusiastic about the books was incredibly humbling. The pleasure the students got from this amazing opportunity was palpable and one, I hope, they will remember with delight.”
Kathryn Evans, Principal said: “Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy is incredibly proud to be able to offer opportunities like this for our students and for primaries across Runcorn.
“Supporting our students to build strong literacy skills and a love for reading is a core priority for us, and it has been great to see how committed our students have been to their learning and our library work, so it was lovely to reward them with new books.
“We hold really close links with many primary schools in the area and we’ve loved working alongside them to help children at all ages have access to their own books and thrive on their reading journey.”
