Staff at Ormiston Victory Academy are delighted with their latest Ofsted report, which identifies Personal Development for students as outstanding.

Inspectors concluded that this aspect of the academy is ‘exemplary’, with the opportunities students’ benefit from being ‘extensive’. Similarly, students spoke to inspectors about the activities available to them with ‘enthusiasm’.

Grading the academy good in all other areas as part of a newer inspection framework, Ofsted praised Victory for being ‘an ambitious place’ with a ‘sense of community’ which is instilled at all levels by all leaders.

The report states that children and young people enjoy attending the academy and that the staff team are committed to ensuring that ‘not only do students achieve, but that they enjoy their learning’ – which the academy are very proud to see acknowledged in the feedback.

The report outlines a wide range of areas where the academy is delivering an exceptional education for all, but particular highlights include:

  • Students enjoy studying a broad range of subjects and make good progress through the curriculum.
  • At the heart of the academy’s ambition is a deep sense of striving for the very best for students academically and more widely.
  • The design of the curriculum has a positive impact on students’ knowledge and understanding.
  • Students can learn effectively because the academy is calm.
  • Careers provision for students is a strength of the academy. It is well planned and provides regular opportunities to engage in the world of work. Sixth Form students move on to a wide range of apprenticeships and university courses.
  • The academy responds effectively to students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Appropriate adaptions are made in class to enable students to achieve well.
  • Students are encouraged to be adventurous and independent.
  • The academy has ensured that opportunities for staff’s professional development enable them to have strong subject knowledge and provide an environment within which students thrive.
  • Staff feel valued because of the opportunities offered to them through training, and the consideration of their workload and well-being.

Ormiston Victory Academy is committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, creativity and confidence to lead successful lives. Moving forward, the academy is focusing on continuing to build upon this glowing report to ensure it delivers on its core mission.

Naomi Palmer, Principal at Ormiston Victory Academy, said: “I am incredibly proud of how hard our team have worked over many years to build an academy which relentlessly supports not just academic achievement, but also our community and families in securing strong and bright futures for our young people, which has been recognised in the report.

“We enjoyed showing the inspection team what we have put in place to create a safe, happy and aspirational environment. I am extremely grateful to the students, staff, governors and parents who have all helped to make our inspection outcome a success.”

Aron Whiles, Education Director at Ormiston Academies Trust, said: “Many congratulations to all those at Ormiston Victory Academy for this achievement, which is truly a testament to all their hard work and commitment in supporting students to achieve. I very much look forward to continuing to work closely with Naomi and the team to ensure the academy builds upon this success.”
